Thales announced end of life for the 14-year old document reader on February 20th, 2026.
Since the launch of the AT10K, we have expected that Thales would announce end-of-life for the AT9000 ID and passport reader, due to the heavy overlap in their capabilities. In February, Thales announced that the last day to purchase AT9000s (both China-made, and Mexico-made) would be July 31, 2026.
- End of Life notification date: February 20th, 2026
- Last Time Buy from Thales: July 31st, 2026
- End of Thales Support: July 31st, 2028
We continue to have a small inventory of AT9000s for sale, but they will become challenging to find after this date. We will continue to sell Open Box and Refurbished units until we run out.
AT9000 alternative → Thales AT10K
The most obvious alternative to the AT9000 is the Thales AT10K. This device was planned as the successor to the AT9000 since its release, and it boasts all the same functionality as the AT9000 with a much smaller footprint.
What are the differences between the AT9000 and the AT10K?
The two devices are quite similar, however the AT10K offers a sleeker more streamlined design.
- Weight: AT10K is slightly heavier at 2.4lbs vs. AT9K at 2.2lbs
- Dimensions: AT10K is much shorter, at 4.0″ with the hood vs. the AT9K which is 6.2″ high with the hood. Footprint is almost identical.
- Use in kiosks: Both can be used in a kiosk, but the AT10K is smaller, making it more suited for embed in a kiosk
- Image resolution: AT10K image resolution is slightly lower at 370 vs. the AT9000’s 400dpi, but 370dpi is still sufficient for ID authentication
- Light spectrums: Both devices offer simultaneous white light, ultraviolet light, and infrared light capture
Both devices are fully compatible with IDScan.net software for ID authentication and passport scanning.
