Yes, however, Georgia law requires that customers give consent before their identification is scanned.

Can you save data from a scanned ID in Georgia?

Yes, as long as consent is obtained prior to the ID scan, there are no current laws which limit or restrict saving data.

Does Georgia offer affirmative defense for ID scanning?

No. Georgia has no affirmative defense laws related to ID scanning.

What types of IDs does Georgia issue?

Georgia issues drivers licenses and state IDs, including REAL ID. Georgia also offers a mobile drivers license (mDL), available in Apple Wallet, Google Wallet, and Samsung Wallet.

Age verification for alcohol sales

Georgia requires that businesses verify age, but does not require electronic scanning or verification for alcohol sales.

Data collection for controlled substances

Dispensers of schedule II, III, IV, or V substances must keep electronic records including the patient’s name, address, date of birth, and gender, as well as prescription and payment information

Age verification for social media

Georgia law requires social media sites verify users’ age by July 1, 2025. Children younger than 16 must have parental permission to create social media accounts.

Georiga requires secondary metal recyclers keep records including a copy of the seller’s ID, ID number, name, and birth date. ID scanning can ensure this process is accurate and efficient.

Georgia does not currently have any data privacy laws. The Georgia Computer Data Privacy Act was proposed in 2022 but failed to pass.
