For the first time since 2017, the New Hampshire DMV has released a new ID format. They have begun issuing drivers licenses and state IDs using the new design as of January 23, 2025. While you will primarily notice the aesthetic changes, all new drivers licenses and non-driver IDs will also have new embedded security features.
New design and security features
- The primary design element on the front of the drivers and non drivers license is now the New Hampshire state flower (the purple lilac)
- The Old Man of the Mountain is now featured on the back of the ID
- The IDs are printed on counterfeit-resistant material
The new IDs are REAL ID compliant. All previously issued IDs with the old format are still valid until the expiration date listed on the ID.
Will ID scanning work on the New Hampshire ID?
Yes. Both VeriScan and ParseLink will continue being able to read and parse the new ID format ensuring business continuity without a lapse in service.
Other New Hampshire ID updates
While New Hampshire has introduced legislation surrounding the creation of a mobile ID, it is not yet clear when the app will go live for residents, or which wallets New Hampshire plans to support.
New Hampshire currently issues roughly 350,000 identity credentials annually.
