State of digital ID in Wyoming
On March 6, 2020, Governor Mark Gordon signed House Bill 05, authorizing digital driver’s licenses in the state of Wyoming. The estimate for launch in March 2020, was “at least 2-5 years from being ready for deployment in the general public.” In 2024, it was announced that Wyoming plans to launch their mobile ID in 2025.
Notable elements of HB 05:
- Presentment of a digital ID to a law enforcement officer is not acceptable. A physical ID must be presented.
- Presentation of a digital ID is not considered consent for an officer to access other apps or stored items on the presenter’s mobile device.
- The digital identity cannot be used to prove driving privileges. A physical ID must be carried at all times while driving.
- A Wyoming mobile ID will cost residents $10 each. This is in additional to the $10 physical ID.
