State of digital ID in Vermont
Vermont is working toward implementing a mobile drivers license for its residents. Vermont Bill S.99 was passed in May 2023, and includes provisions that legalize mobile IDs and allow the state to issue them. The driver-centric portion of the modernization project was expected to commence in February 2024 and take 18 months, pinning the potential launch of a Vermont mobile ID in Summer 2025.
The state has not announced how the Vermont digital ID will be distributed; whether it will use an existing framework such as IDs in Apple Wallet, or whether the state will develop their own proprietary application.

- The Vermont mobile ID will not take the place of a physical ID and drivers must present the physical ID upon request.
