Status of mobile ID in New Jersey
Originally introduced in October 2024, SB 1297 explores the creation of a New Jersey mobile ID. The Transportation Committee in the New Jersey State Senate voted unanimously to approve a bill. It has since been referred back to the Senate for budgeting purposes
Notable elements of Senate Bill No. 1297
- Giving the state of New Jersey the right to charge for the digital credential
- Motorcycle licenses, probationary licenses will be included (no word on CDLs)
- Judges and police officers must accept the New Jersey mobile drivers license
