State of digital ID in New Hampshire
Sen. Tim Lang, R-Sanbornton, along with six other Republicans and two Democrats, introduced bill SB70 regarding the creation of a New Hampshire mobile ID in January 2025. If the bill passes the Senate and House this year and is signed by Gov. Kelly Ayotte, it will go into effect January 1, 2026.
Notable elements of SB70
- If requested by law enforcement, residents much still present a physical ID.
- The digital identity cannot be used to prove driving privileges. New Hampshire residents must keep their physical ID on them while driving.
- The New Hampshire mobile ID shall be designed so that there is no requirement for the digital ID holder to display or relinquish possession of their mobile device to relying parties for the acceptance of the digital ID.
