State of mobile ID in Minnesota
In August of 2022, the Minnesota government signed off on the implementation of a Minnesota mobile ID in the state by signing SF 3609. While it became effective August 1, 2022, a digital ID has still not been made available to residents. By December 15, 2022, the commissioner of public safety was supposed to report on the following:
(1) include information on how other states have implemented the transition to digital
documents;
(2) make recommendations on how to ensure the security, integrity, and privacy of data;
(3) include an estimate of the costs for transitioning to digital documents;
(4) include an estimated timeline for transitioning to digital documents; and
(5) identify statutory changes necessary to implement the transition to digital documents.
There has been no update to the general public since then. There is currently no publicly available timeline for implementation.
