Mobile ID rollout and adoption in Hawaii
Hawaii currently offers mobile IDs through one wallet:
- Hawaii ID in Apple Wallet
Being such a new feature, there is not any statistical data on the number of people using the new digital ID on the Apple Wallet ID.
In addition to the Hawaii mobile ID in Apple Wallet , House Bill 1686 was also proposed, which would allow the state to create a digital identification program.
Where can the Hawaii mobile ID be used?
The Hawaii mDL is accepted at participating TSAs around the country including the Daniel K. Inouye International Airport.
Individuals seeking to use Hawaii-issued REAL IDs in Apple Wallet must continue to carry their physical identification cards.
Currently law enforcement does not accept the Hawaii digital ID, and local establishments may or may not.
How can businesses read/verify Hawaii mobile IDs?
Hawaii residents can use their Apple Wallet ID as a means of age verification at participating locations. A variety of apps, such as Tap2iD Mobile and VeriScan, which are now integrated with each other, are acceptable solutions for businesses to download and use to securely accept mobile driver’s licenses and ID cards, including IDs in Apple Wallet, for in-person age verification.
