On August 18th, The Texas Department of Public Safety released a new, tamper-resistant ID format, an upgrade from the previous 2020 version. The new Texas drivers’ licenses also feature new design elements and additional integrated security features in an effort to make it more difficult to counterfeit. While the AAMVA compliant design has incorporated additional tamper-proof features, the information on the IDs has been reorganized in a more easy-to-read format.

Is my current Texas driver’s license still valid?
Yes, your current Texas driver’s icense is still valid until the expiration date on the ID. The new ID format has just begun the rollout process, so unless your card needs to be renewed, replaced, or updated, the old ID format will still be sufficient.
Will ID scanning work on the Texas driver’s license?
Yes. Both VeriScan and ParseLink will continue being able to read and parse the new Texas ID format, ensuring business continuity without a lapse in service.
