Challenges authenticating newly issued Oregon IDs

Drivers with Oregon IDs

Beginning on March 18, 2026, the Oregon DMV made a change to the barcode formatting on the state ID cards. A major data field on the ID is broadly classified, against AAMVA standard for the field. The change in the data syntax impacts the trackstring, causing a misclassification of the document. This is an error in the ID design, at the DMV level. We confirmed this error across more than 100 ID documents issued after March 18.

This misclassification flagged our barcode security checks, as our algorithms are now seeing unexpected or incorrect data in a field. Additionally, our ID authentication has flagged these documents since the data present inside the barcode directly contradicts data present in the plaintext on the ID, causing a “fails crossmatch” error.
