Maryland Apple Wallet ID

Mobile ID rollout and adoption in Maryland

Maryland offers mobile IDs through multiple wallets:

  • Maryland ID in Apple Wallet
  • Maryland ID in Google Wallet
  • Maryland ID in Samsung Wallet

Since its launch in 2022, over 250,000 Maryland residents have added their driver’s licenses or state IDs to their phones.

Where can the Maryland mobile ID be used?

The Maryland mobile ID is accepted at participating TSAs around the country.

The Maryland mobile ID is also valid for proving age for alcohol purchases in Montgomery County ABC stores.

Currently law enforcement does not accept Maryland Mobile ID, and local establishments may or may not be aware of how to use/process the new ID format.

How can businesses read/verify Maryland mobile IDs?

Maryland has produced a companion app called Mobile ID Check by MD, which is capable of contactless reading of their mobile credential using NFC or QR code scanning. The app is available on both iOS and Android.

Although capable of reading Maryland mobile IDs, the app is not confirmed compatible with non-Maryland digital credentials. The app also does not save or store any information, when the ID is read, nor does it validate physical identity documents.

VeriScan for Windows with a Tap2ID mobile ID reader is capable of reading and verifying mobile IDs, including the Maryland mobile ID, and storing information alongside data from scanned physical IDs and passports.
