The Washington State Liquor Board has initiated a program to help prevent minors from drinking. They have selected a particularly interesting approach through employing the assistance of 18-21 year olds. The WSLCB refers to this demographic assisting them as “IA”s- Investigative Aides. They plant the IA’s throughout local bars to see how the bartender or bouncers respond to their  ID’s.

Faster and easier driver’s license renewal options

In Iowa, the House Republicans voted unanimously on House File 355 to provide people with easier driver’s license renewal options.  This new law will allow people to renew their driver’s licenses online or electronically.  It also helps save applicants time by no longer requiring an applicant to pass a vision test or submit a vision report when renewing their license online.

Driver’s License Renewal for Senior Citizens

The process for driver’s license renewal for senior citizens in California now involves a written test.   For those 70 and older, they must take a written exam.

Several senior citizens agree with the entire process.  For people 70 or older, many of the traffic laws keep changing, so it’s important to stay up to date with the rules of the road.  Additionally, many worry that symptoms of old age, such as memory loss, greatly inhibit senior citizen’s driving ability.

If a senior citizen fails on their first three tries, then they need to pay the renewal fee again.  Afterwards, they will receive three more attempts.

No More Waiting in Lines for Drivers Road Test

In Texas, teens are now getting their driver’s licenses even faster without having to wait in line.  The Texas Department of Public Safety is starting a new program where teens can take a driver’s license road test without having to going to the DMV.  Now, instructors can be certified by DPS and give the test themselves, which is estimated to take about 30 minutes.  This new program is designed to help save patrons more time and allow them toavoid having to schedule months in advance, wait in line, and finally take the road test.

Puerto Rico Driver's License

Migrants in Puerto Rico get Driver’s Licenses

A new law in Puerto Rico will allow illegal migrants living in Puerto Rico to obtain a temporary driver’s license.  They expect 100,000 migrants to apply  for these new licenses.  The license would only be available to those who have lived in Puerto Rico for at least a year and have either a passport or an embassy-issued document.  The license is valid for three years and can be renewed for another three years. The provisional license also features a different design and states it cannot be used as a form of identification or for any other purpose.

Georgia also adding online driver’s license renewal

Starting on July 1st, you will no longer have to wait in line at a Georgia DMV to renewal your driver’s license.  Your welcome.

To qualify, your driver’s license or ID must be Secure ID compliant.  What does that mean?  It means when you registered for a driver’s license, you rough a birth certificate or passport, your social security card, two documents proving your residency, and a Marriage License if you’ve changed your name.  There will also be a gold start in the top right hand corner of your driver’s license if you qualify.

North Carolina Driver's License

NC Adds Remote Driver’s License Renewal

Do to an extreme increase in volume, North Carolina has passed a bill that would allow people to renew their driver’s license remotely.

To qualify, a person would need a valid driver’s licenses issued after they turned 18.  Additionally, they would be required to have previously renewed their driver’s license in person at the DMV office.

This new bill that was passed on Wednesday and would let people renew licenses without taking a new picture or passing an exam at the DMV.  People are free to apply online, by mail, or by telephone.  The IDs would be valid for 4 years and reduce the hassle of waiting in line at the DMV.

As ID renewal moves to an online model, ID validation will continue to be pivotal.  The ability to scan, verify, and collect customer information will be an important aspect of the success of this campaign.

Illinois driver’s license stations could close

Secretary of State Jesse White told lawmakers that nearly two dozen driver’s license stations will close unless the General Assembly extends a temporary tax increase.  If the income tax level falls from 5% to 3.75%, White will have to lay off 200 workers and reduce his office’s budget by about 10%.  The closures of the driver’s license stations would also create longer drive times and wait times for customers in rural areas trying to renew their driver’s license.

Driver’s License Renewal Change in Hawaii

Beginning on THursday, Hawaii residents must show two documents that prove their residency in order to obtain a Hawaii driver’s license or state ID card.

The documents must include the applicant’s name, address, and proof of residency.  Eligible documents include their current driver’s license, vehicle registration or title, voter registration card, or other mail from a government or medical entity.  These documents must be recent and cannot be more than two years old.  Other options include a utility bill, a checking or savings account statement, and a payroll check or stub.

This changes are an attempt by Hawaii to be more compliant with the Real ID Act of 2005.  The fee for a state ID on Kauai will also increase from $4 to $32 and will be valid for up to 8 years.

Texas DPS Urges Online Driver’s License Renewal

The Texas DPS is strongly urging citizens to avoid the long lines at the DMV and registering to renew their license online.  DPS Director Steven McCraw says many Texans can opt into renewing their IDs online instead of in person.  The only eligibility requirements include US citizenship and ID expiration within one year.  The DPS has also implemented “mega centers” in Austin, DFW, Houston, and San Antonio, which allows you to reserve a spot in line at the DPS center before going in.
