Georgia’s Implementation of Mobile Driver’s Licenses: Coming Soon
Georgia will offer mobile driver’s licenses (mDLs) to its residents soon. Although not yet available, Georgia will be within the first few states to be compatible with Apple’s wallet feature called the Apple Wallet. States planning to use the Apple Wallet for digital driver’s licenses include Arizona, Connecticut, Iowa, Kentucky, Maryland, Oklahoma, Utah, and of course Georgia. So far, three states including Arizona, Maryland, and Colorado support this feature currently. Other states, including Georgia, are working to support this feature on their residents’ mobile devices.
States such as Louisiana and Florida offer state-operated apps for mobile IDs, differing from the Apple Wallet. The benefits of mDLs include “providing secure, convenient identity verification capable of reducing the use of expired, invalid and counterfeit IDs,” according to mDL Connection.
