Fraud Caught in Biloxi – Fake Checks
In Biloxi, Mississippi, police reported that a man tried to cash fake checks using a fake ID.
At the Boomtown Casino in Biloxi, Andrew Clay Sims was caught attempting to cash two fake checks within the same hour. By using a fake ID, he attempted to commit check fraud and cash each check.
Senior Vice President of Gaming Operations at the Hard Rock Casino said the following: “The employees are our best defense against it. We teach them to use their senses to feel and to look. Then we have all the other devices we can check. We have the pens, the lights, things like that, or electronics with anti-counterfeiting detection devices on them.” Although the staff try its best to catch the fake IDs, some fakes still slip through the cracks.
Along with the check fraud at the Boomtown Casino, a local Gulfport bank experienced check fraud as well. Gulfport police arrested a woman, Valerie Marie Halton, on account of uttering forgery. She attempted to deposit a fake check into her account for over $68,000 at Gulf Coast Community Federal Credit Union. When the bank management discovered the check was fake, they contacted police, and a warrant was put out for her arrest.
