#CustomerLoyalty

As technology evolves, so should businesses. However, you would be surprised by how many businesses lag behind. This gap results in millions of dollars in lost revenue. How does your business measure up?

According to pointofsale.com, the average American household is part of 29 loyalty programs. The potential stored within this number can be quite significant for your business. So, why is it that you are not in a position to take advantage of this untapped potential? It may be because you are not aware of the technology that is available to help you.

IDScan.net has developed the technology which makes signing up for loyalty programs and tracking your customers’ patterns very simple. The key to attracting a customer to your loyalty program, is to ensure that the process is easy. That’s where IDScan.net comes in. Rather than having your customer fill out an arduous form which will often result in inaccuracy, give them a hassle-free way to become a member. IDScan.net’s software allows the customer to enter their information by merely swiping their ID. Within less than 5 seconds, you will have all of your customer’s information. This allows you to focus on your customer, rather than dealing with any inconveniences that would inevitably arise from filling out a paper form.

Once your customer is enrolled in your loyalty program, IDScan.net’s software then enables you to capture and track any relevant data that will amplify your business.

The benefits of a loyalty program are relevant to profit growth for several reasons. They boost growth, enhance your reputation, increase sales, provide important market research and enhance customers’ overall satisfaction. 3M’s New CR5400 ID Imager Provides Protection Against Fake IDs

The ideal ID scanning solution has always been a four part process.  First, the ID is physically scanned.  The actual raw capture of the 2D barcode, smart-chip, or magnetic stripe is essential to the automation and actual validation of any ID.  Secondly this raw data must be parsed.  Unparsed, unformatted raw data is worthless to the business-owner.  This parsing algorithm must be tailor-made to fit the ID on a state by state basis.  Each state also constantly reformats their IDs, in an attempt to foil the manufacture of fakes and to keep up with new technology provided by the AAMVA.   At IDScan.net, we have the most up-to-date parsing engine and work diligently to stay one step ahead of the forgers.  Thirdly, the data should be collected.  With our program VeriScan Online we pioneered cloud-based ID storage and were the first company to engineer mobile ID verification for the iOS.  Lastly, this data should be presented for analysis.  With VeriScan Online, custom reports and analytics are generated with a mouseclick.

This process is our bread and butter.  That’s why it’s so exciting to announce our newest step with 3M’s CR5400 ID scanner/imager.   The CR5400 represents the newest and most advanced weapon in our arsenal to fight ID fakes and forgers.  This device when paired with our VeriScan software suite will detect any counterfeits, alterations, simulations and substitutions in the ID forging process.

Previously the alternative for checking against fakes and frauds was DMV database integration.  This process is often time consuming and extremely costly, and only suitable for the most thorough visitor management and access control solutions.  This new and affordable device with its spectrum of scanning compatibility checks and verifies licenses’ holograms with UV and Infrared light, ensuring that every inch of the ID meets state regulation and format.  This simplifies the entire verification process to one in-house localized scan, so IDs can be processed quickly and inexpensively.

Additionally, the scanner captures crisp high resolution images of both the front and back of the ID, making it ideal for chargeback prevention as well as ID verification.

Over the following weeks we will be releasing compatible versions of our entire software suite.  Please stay tuned as we work to bring you the most secure and efficient ID scanning solutions at the lowest price possible.  Let us know if you have any additional questions not answered above.

The Pocket Singularity: the Emergence of a Phone-ID Union

We’re doing more and more things with our smartphones.  With Apple Pay and Google Wallet, the traditional leather wallet already seems antiquated when stacked against the convenience of a mobile payment solution. So why not use them to store our driver’s license?

Motorists in Iowa may be among the first in the nation to be able to whip out their smartphones to access their licenses at traffic stops.  The Iowa Department of Transportation is developing a smartphone app that would allow drivers to access a digitally encoded license that would take the place of the conventional plastic ID card.

“It’s on your cellphone so you can carry it around with you,” Iowa Department of Transportation Director Paul Trombino says..

“From a law enforcement perspective I really don’t see any advantages,” says Sgt. Scott Bright with the Iowa State Patrol. “The first thing I thought about is if we’re making a traffic stop, is that violator looking for their cellphone before we stop the car.”

Bright also doubts that officers could scan the information from a digital license without carrying the cellphone back to the squad car.  However, when paired with a mobile ID scanning solution, such as the VeriScan SL42 package, the ID would be able to be scanned in the field, eliminating many privacy concerns.

Computer security experts say the digital license could be more secure than a plastic license you might lose or leave lying around. But that doesn’t mean there’s any real need for this yet.

So with all the objections, what’s the point of a digital driver’s license? Andrea Henry at the Iowa DOT concedes there isn’t exactly a clamor yet for this innovation.

“However, we do know that customers are demanding services through their mobile devices more and more. It’s really about just keeping up with technology,” Henry says.

MorphoTrust USA, the technology company developing the app, is pushing that concept to other motor vehicle departments around the country. Jenny Openshaw of MorphoTrust USA says customers do want to be able to renew their driver’s licenses online and sees this as the next logical step.

“I think that the digital driver’s license doesn’t so much solve a problem as it fulfills a need and a desire on the part of the American consumer to have everything that is important to us in electronic form and on the mobile device of our choice. People are more likely to leave their wallet at home these days than their cellphone,” Openshaw says.

This process of wallet digitization is happening.  People demand convenience, ease of access, and efficiency.  It is only a matter of time before the digital revolution takes the driver’s license as well. And officials must be ready.

At IDScan.net we regularly work with state police forces on mobile scanning solutions.  As we move into the age of the digital ID, contact us to maintain compliance and compatibility.

5 Ways ID Scanning Solutions Help Prevent Chargebacks at your Club

The story is always the same.  A patron comes into your club, spends a lot of money, and a week later you receive a chargeback from their credit card company.   This is the result of something called “buyer’s remorse” and it affects thousands of businesses all over the country on a weekly basis.

Buyer’s remorse stems from feelings of guilt over extravagance, or the notion that the customer has been duped into spending more than he or she should.   Industries such as gentleman’s clubs, nightclubs, and liquor retailers are especially prone to fraudulent chargeback claims as they sell intangible services that are likely to induce buyer’s remorse in a large percentage of their customer base.

Capturing customer information is the best way to prevent chargebacks.  The best way to go about this is with a time-efficient, automated, and preferably mobile solution.  VeriScan Online’s cloud-based customer capture solution provides a secure, easy-to-use platform to capture and record and analyze your customers’ personal data.

The following best practices with VeriScan Online will help you reduce and fight chargeback claims levied against your business:

Scan, verify, and record the customers’ drivers licenses-  Using our VeriScan software scan and validate your customers’ IDs, recording all of the contained data in a CSV log.

Use mobile solutions to eliminate buyers’ hesitance-  VeriScan Online has a suite of mobile apps to allow for signature capture and ID scanning on the go, eliminating buyer hesitance associated with kiosk identification.  If you can go to the customer rather than demanding the customer come to you, it’s far more likely that he or she will remain comfortable, relaxed, and willing to spend money on your products and services.

Timestamp your ID swipes–  ID scans are timestamped so that they may be matched with credit card processes, proving that the patron in question was at the establishment during the time and credit card process in question.

Record biometrics–  The more customer information you provide credit card companies, the easier it is to fight chargeback claims against your business.    With VeriScan Online’s custom waiver feature you can create an agreement or waiver on the portal and have your patrons sign it using an iPad or connected signature pad device.

Photocapture the patrons’ IDs–  VeriScan Online now allows for the Capture of 3 saved images to the cloud.   These images can be of the patron in question, a hard copy of the ID, or any other identifying documents.  They are all saved to the cloud and linked to the ID scan of your patron for immediate review.

Generating a report of this information to provide to the credit card companies is as easy as selecting a date range and clicking generate.  By following these 5 best practices you can eliminate costly risk and prevent chargebacks and fraudulent claims with little to no hassle.  If you have any further questions don’t hesitate to call or email us, as consultation is free.

BREAKING NEWS: Ohio Releases New ID Format, New Fields

Ohio is set to release a new ID format on January 5th, 2015. This new ID would feature both a magnetic stripe and an updated PDF417 2D Barcode that would include the capacity for several new data elements for specific instances where they are needed.

These new data elements include a field that would signify the card carrier as a health care proxy to act on behalf of another individual if they lose the faculty to do so; a life-sustaining equipment indicator to identify that the card-holder is in medical need of a respirator or similar life-sustaining equipment; an under-16 until field relevant for those possessing intermediate licenses; and many other fields associated with different vehicle jurisdictions.

The release of these new data fields points to a trend of increased collection and monitoring of personal information in state and federal IDs.   As our policing and medical practice systems advance  our identification systems must follow suit.  With the inclusion of these fields, Ohio is taking steps towards automating new processes and systems.  We look forward to seeing what states will follow suit.

Providing our customer base with the latest ID scanning news and automatic updates is of the highest import for us. As such we take pride in staying one step ahead of our competitors with the most up-to-date parsing engine on the market. We are the first to know about pre-released ID format updates and regulations. Because of this, we are the first to market with our own updates, making sure that you maintain 100% compliance, 100% of the time.

5 Steps to ID Verification Compliance

At IDScan.net we take pride in being a one stop source for bars and nightclubs ID verification and scanning needs.  If asking yourself, “Is my ID verification process cutting it?” take note of these 5 steps to ensure that it is.

1.   Contact your state’s regulatory body for guidelines and advice.

In Louisiana we have Alcohol and Tobacco Control.  In Mississippi there is Alcoholic Beverage Control.  These administrative bodies serve the same purpose but have different policies and preferences on how to follow  alcohol and tobacco regulations.  By contacting your state’s policy enforcing group, you ensure that you have the most relevant guidelines and information to help you stay in compliance.

Familiarize yourself and your staff with both federal and state policies towards alcohol and tobacco sales.  Is there a minimum age a client must look to avoid being ID’d?  How do you verify the authenticity of the ID?  Do you need an electronic record of having verified the ID?  How long must you maintain client data proving your customer base was carded and of age?  How do you record underage offenders?  The first step to achieving and maintaining compliance is knowing how to define compliance.

2.    Create specific, achievable practices to follow the regulations and suggestions provided by your regulatory body.

Sit down with your staff and discuss the most effective ways to comply with set alcohol and tobacco sale policies.  How will you deal with invalid ID’s?  What scanners will you implement to verify the authenticity of said IDs?  Where will these scanners be located and who will have training and access to them?  There are more steps to compliance than “look at every ID,” although that is certainly a good place to start.

3.   Find a solution that is both secure and efficient.

While security and effectiveness should be your priority in developing you ID verification system, try to be as efficient as possible.  When your establishment is busy the last thing you want is a cumbersome identification process.   Take the weight off of bartenders and bouncers by implementing an automated electronic system.  Regulations have become stricter, but technology has come a long way since manually inspecting each and every ID.  Take advantage of this and make your verification process as painless as possible.

For a list of recommended scanners and software please see idscan.net/solutions.

4.   Train your staff in best practices for alcohol and tobacco sales.

There are plenty or resources that can be found through regulatory bodies and attorney general offices.

For example the Mississippi Attorney General’s Office released this useful guide that educates managers and staff on best practices for accountability:  http://www.ago.state.ms.us/wp-content/uploads/2013/08/Guide-to-Prevent-Underage-Alcohol-Tobacco-Sales-to-Minors.pdf

Although Mississippi’s laws and policies may not be identical to your state’s, the information contained is still relevant as it explains important overall policies (e.g. how to calm, handle belligerent customers, how to diffuse tense or heated situations).

5.   Be consistent and thorough.

Don’t fall into bad practices such as assuming someone’s of age because the bar is packed.  Incentivize your staff into checking IDs regularly.  Many managers have had success by implementing a rewards program for the confiscation of fake IDs.

A major pitfall many bars and nightclubs experience is the prevalence of the idea that more customers equal more tips.  This unfortunately translates into underage customers also equal more tips.   Make sure that your staff understands the severity of regulatory punishments.  IT DOES NOT PAY TO SERVE MINORS.  Hold your staff accountable.  Otherwise everyone will pay the price.

If you have any questions about the steps listed above, don’t hesitate to reach out to us.  We’ve been helping businesses implement and execute ID verification programs for over ten years.  We’ll help you take the steps necessary as well.

3M Releases Passport Reader for Largest Hajj to Date

From October 2nd to 7th an estimated 1.98 million Muslim pilgrims observed Hajj by traveling to the holy city of Mecca, Saudi Arabia. The pilgrimage is required of any Muslim both financially and physically capable of making the journey and is considered a showing of solidarity within the Muslim community, as well as an expression of one’s submission to God.  The first recorded log of those making the pilgrimage was conducted in 1920, with 58,584 pilgrims attending.  In 2013, approximately 2.061,600 observed Hajj.  In this way, the pilgrimage reflects the leveling of the economic playing field for developing nations and the expansion of the religious community outside of the realm of city, state, and nation.  Even accounting for Islam’s natural growth, this increase in participation is significant and is the result of both expanding access to affordable and convenient travel, and Saudi Arabia’s successful dissemination of relevant information to ready pilgrimage-able Muslims for the upcoming journey.  The Hajj Permit introduced by Saudi Arabia this year limited the attending audience to one pilgrimage per five years in hopes to free up space and services for the attending guests.  This paired with streamlined border security shortened the time pilgrims spend in line, and allowed easier but more secure access to religious sites and events.

At IDScan.net we saw a marked increase in passport reader sales from the period of July to September.  Additionally, we worked with the Saudi Arabian embassy on deploying the 3M CR100 and Wizzforms software to further simplify and expedite the migration of pilgrims into Saudi Arabia.  The solution integrated into the embassy’s platform, effectively pulling information from the passports’ MRZ code and populating in-house forms with the data.  This process eliminated human error and simplified the data entry process to the swiping of a passport.

As Hajj attendance grows,  Islamic nations’ travel agencies and border agents must implement more effective and secure solutions to process pilgrims quickly and safely.  Travel documents have become more sophisticated and secure and a more sophisticated scanning solution is needed.  The release of the 3M AT9000 MK2 is just that.  The AT9000 scanner expands reading capability to newly-released biometric travel documents containing integrated chips such as EIDS and ePassports.  The scanner also creates true color images of all processed documents allowing the user to create logs of every passport scanned.   Through the addition of anti-glare technology which removes reflections from laminate during the scanning process, the AT9000 document reader improves upon its predecessors capabilities through increased reliability.  With the inclusion of UV and IR imaging, the AT9000 also detects virtually all fraudulent IDs and passports.  This paired with increasingly streamlined and efficient border control systems increased the pilgrims’ security while minimizing potential pitfalls on this year’s journey.

Handheld ID Scanner

Ontario County purchasing handheld ID scanners

Ontario County, NY has decided to move forward with appropriating funds to purchase handheld ID scanners to catch underage drinkers.  According to Sue Cirencione – the new Ontario County Stop DWI program administrator – Ontario county will seek grant money to pay for two handheld ID scanners.

After noticing how difficult police were struggling with identifying fake IDs, Cirencione decided that the county needs to invest in ID scanners to help curb the amount of DUIs and DWIs in the area.  Handheld ID readers will also help speed up the line when entering the concert venue.  Cirencione said the scanners will not only be used at venues like CMAC, but also in county bars and carnivals.

IN Liquor Store

Indiana Excise Police Busy with Underage Drinkers

With the school year around the corner, the number of fake IDs and underage drinkers is expected to spike.  In Indiana, already over 71 people were arrested on alcohol-related chargers at Ball State University.  Charges included furnishing alcohol to minors, false statement of age, illegal possession of alcohol, resisting arrest, and more.

Several of these arrests were related to local campus events and reported by nearby liquor stores who spotted fake IDs.  Although fake IDs are becoming more and more difficult to spot, the use of an ID scanner has helped stop underage drinkers from purchasing alcohol.
