GET Mobile Verify is a mobile solution that allows businesses to inspect and verify an ID for age validation as well as ID authenticity. It is a free app on both the Apple AppStore and the Google Play store.
When tested against the 7 known real IDs, GETMobileVerify passed 7/7.
When tested against the 43 known fake IDs, it caught 1/43 fake IDs. It is important to note the app didn’t actually register the one ID as a fake ID, it just wouldn’t scan any of the data from the barcode (which can lead one to believe the ID is likely fake).
There were two instances where the ID was scanned, but the information on the front didn’t match the information contained in the barcode, leaving it up to employees to catch the difference. One person who was displaying female data on the front, scanned male data from the back barcode. Another person displayed one name on the front, but scanned in as Kiera Knightly (yes, the actress/model) from the barcode.

When tested against the 7 known real IDs, VeriScan passed 7/7. When tested against the 43 known fake IDs, VeriScan caught an incredible 43/43. Along with informing the user that an ID was real, it included a popup to let the user know if an ID was expired. With the fake IDs, the same expiration warning popped up, but the display message informing users of a potential fake read: Suspicious ID – additional validation recommended.

When we tested the 7 known real IDs, ID Scanner passed 4/7. 3 of the legitimate IDs were flagged as fake. This high rate of false positives will create poor customer service and line jams at entrance.
When tested against the 43 known fake IDs, ID Scanner caught 23/43. 20 known fake IDs passed through the ID Scanner app.
Using the banned and VIP feature is not self explanatory and requires some finesse

ID Scanner Professional
ID Scanner professional is an ID scanner app that is available on both the Apple AppStore and the Google Play Store. It is designed to “verify document information” and acts as a sort of visitor management tool for bars, restaurants, clubs, and cafes.
When we tested the 7 known real IDs, ID Scanner Professional passed 6/7, but for 3/6 that it passed, the app stated it “couldn’t read part of the data”.
When we tested against the 43 known fake IDs, ID Scanner Professional caught 12/43. The same pop-up, stating that it “couldn’t read part of the data” happened again when testing the fake IDs. Across all IDs, it had trouble reading part of the data.

When we tested against the 43 known fake IDs, Scandit caught 24/43. Of the 24, on 1/24 explicitly said “Failed Barcode Verification”, the others simply would not scan.

The only two that were not scanned as valid, were only marked as such because the IDs would not scan at all on the app. Even with “bouncer mode” turned on, no fake IDs were flagged meaning it likely only checked to make sure the age met the necessary requirements.

When we tested the 43 known fake IDs, Vemos – ID Scan caught 9/43. Of the IDs that were known fakes, all of the IDs that were not flagged as possible fake IDs or had errors verifying were passed as over 21, leaving it up to the user to allow entry, deny entry, or ban.

The shift towards mobile wallets and hands free solutions, accelerated by the COVID-19 pandemic, has led to a sea of change in how consumers think about their wallet. Tools such as ApplePay and Venmo have eliminated the need to carry cash, or even credit cards. Many state law enforcement agencies are accepting proof of insurance from a phone. And now, jurisdictions are rapidly rolling out the mobile driver’s license (mDL) as a companion to physical, printed IDs.
“The desire for age and identity verification software which can accept mobile IDs has risen substantially in just the last year. Businesses are challenged with finding elegant solutions that can authenticate physical identity documents and read digital credentials from multiple jurisdictions, given the lack of a federal standard.
Because there is no federal standard for digital IDs, each state is free to utilize a solution of their choice. Arizona, Maryland, and Colorado are currently live with an Apple Wallet-powered mDL. Georgia, New York, Kentucky, and Utah are among states which have announced future plans to integrate with Apple. Apple users provide initial identity verification by uploading a photo of their ID, and walking through a guided selfie identity check. The app then uses near field communication (NFC) to securely transmit ID data to approved vendors.
Delaware, Oklahoma, Mississippi, and Louisiana each have proprietary apps. Louisiana’s LAWallet app additionally includes a digital vaccine card, hunting and fishing licenses, concealed handgun permits and the ability to renew or order a duplicate license with the click of a button. These applications expose a 2D (PDF417) barcode, which allows for ID scanning through the same processes as a business would scan a physical ID.
Although all 50 states continue to issue physical licenses, and some insist that mDLs are only meant to serve as “companions” to physical licenses, usage in states with mDLs continues to rise. According to Envoc, developer of the LA Wallet, more than 66% of eligible Louisiana residents have installed the app, and of those who downloaded, they see frequent usage suggesting use of the app as their primary method for providing ID.
“Louisiana has seen many ‘firsts’ and successes with its resident-focused digital credential,” says Calvin Fabre, President of Envoc. “Our residents are the true winners in the digital credentials race.”
Envoc has also performed over 700,000 face-to-face verifications using the LA Wallet app, and over 1.4 million remote identity verifications relying parties involving the digital version of the driver’s license.
The key remaining barrier to widespread adoption is acceptance at TSA checkpoints for domestic travel. However, TSA recently announced acceptance of Arizona and Maryland digital IDs at select airports, with a plan to roll out additional eligibility for more states. We’ve made it incredibly easy to configure your data collection settings, and retention timelines, to allow for compliance with any and all state regulations.
If your business operates in multiple states, you may have to set different policies for data collection and data retention in order to comply properly with each state’s data privacy or ID scanning laws. Or, in another example, you might have to follow industry-specific regulations that vary considerably from state-to-state dictating what kinds of IDs you can accept at your cannabis dispensary, bar, or secure facility.
VeriScan Cloud uses Local Settings Profiles to synchronize settings across multiple devices. There’s a default profile that will apply to all your locations and devices, and you can also create additional profiles if you need certain locations and devices to follow different settings. This will allow you to capture the richest data possible in states with more lax data collection/ID scanning laws, while creating stricter compliance setting profiles for states with more stringent guidelines.
