Keeping Your Casino Operations at the Top of Their Game:

Overview:

Running a casino takes more than having enough poker chips and slot machines. As a casino operator, if you want your business to grow, you have a responsibility to keep patrons happy and to ensure compliance when it comes to preventing underage or banned patrons from entry. Your casino’s bottom line will suffer if you are fined or unable to provide a pleasant experience to your customers. In this article, casino operators will learn how ID scanning will keep their operations at the top of their game.

What You Need to Know:

  1. Loyalty Enrollment: ID scanning brings automation to loyalty enrollment. With proper hardware such as 3M’s AT9000 & autofill software such as IDScan.net’s WizzForms, you will have loyalty customers enrolled in less than 1 second! How it works: When your staff scans the patron’s ID, the ID scanning solution inputs its information directly into your loyalty enrollment database. What this does for your casino: The automated loyalty enrollment provides a better customer experience as they spend less time waiting and more time playing. In addition, you receive 100% accurate data and eliminate all typos and keystroke errors. Did we mention IDScan.net’s solutions are IGT certified and compatible with ALL casino platforms? If you have not yet automated your loyalty enrollment, then you are hurting your bottom line.
  2. Automated Data Collection: Whether your casino’s marketing department wants to collect information for a specific event or generally enhance their marketing efforts, it is vital that they have proper data. This data will inform your marketing efforts. With applications such as VeriScan Online, you will be able to run various demographic reports such as zip code reports to see which areas your patrons are coming from and which areas require more targeted marketing efforts.
  3.  Security: As the need for heightened security increases, so should your casino’s security efforts. Scanning an ID with software such as VeriScan will reduce the use of fake IDs. VeriScan compares the barcode formatting of the ID with that of the government-issued formatting, and if there is a discrepancy, security personnel will receive an error notification. While no software can detect 100% of fake IDs, VeriScan will help reduce their use. For higher level identity vetting, IDScan.net has the ability to tie the ID into various government databases including OFAC or others that provide various forms of authentication such as address identity authentication. Having patron information on file is crucial if a guest were to commit a crime while at the casino or within a close time frame of visiting one. VeriScan allows you to filter visitor logs by date and time. It also gives casino operators the ability to search for a person by their name or ID number. These logs can easily be exported and shared with law enforcement. In addition to ID authentication, VeriScan has the ability to group patrons. If someone who has been banned tries to return to the casino, once their ID is scanned, casino security staff will receive a “Banned” notification.
  4. Reduced Fraud: With the use of image capture scanners and a computer camera, casino operators can reduce fraud. The VeriScan software will automatically capture an image of a casino patron and tie it to the scanned ID which is time stamped. The ID scanning hardware can also capture an image of the ID. This reduces fraud if a patron ever claims that they were not in the casino when they in fact were.
  5. Age Verification: ID scanning is necessary when it comes to age verification. People are prone to error and manually verifying age is time consuming. VeriScan displays the visitor’s age on the screen, and if the patron is of age, a green box will be displayed around the age. Conversely, if the patron is underage, red will surround the age number displayed. If the ID is expired, VeriScan will also issue a notification. This helps increase efficiency and reduces fines associated with underage patrons.

3 Ways ID Scanning is Crucial to Operations in the Financial Industry

Operating a successful financial institution, whether it is a bank or a credit union, takes more than crunching numbers. As the manager, you have a responsibility to ensure that your day to day operations are running as efficiently as possible while ensuring security and a positive customer experience. Customers don’t want to open an account where it will take forever to sign them up and financial institutions don’t want fraudsters depleting their profits. Below you will learn how ID scanning will help with all of these issues.

  1. Fraud Prevention:
    • Scanners with UV technology help detect IDs with fake holograms.
    • Software like WizzForms have an ID validation component in which users receive an error notification if the ID formatting is different than that of the government issued ID’s.
    • Higher level authentication vetting is available. Companies like IDScan.net that have partnerships with corporations such as Transunion can provide higher level identity vetting with their background checks. This includes running the ID against government watch lists such as OFAC as well as many others.

ID Scanning & The Hospitality Industry: Guest Experience is Crucial

ID Scanning goes well beyond age verification. It helps businesses in a variety of industries increase productivity, automate data capture, streamline visitor management and optimize operational efficiency. The hospitality industry is no exception. ID scanning automates guest check-in; this not only increases efficiency but provides a better experience for hotel guests. Below, you will learn how this process works and the best solutions for small/mid-sized operations as well as larger chains.

With technology from a company like IDScan.net, hotel operators scan a guest’s ID and collects their information in less than 1 second. The information that the scan collects is up to the hotel operator. Once you determine what information you want collected, after the ID is scanned, IDScan.net’s software populates it directly into your PMS. There are a few different scanning options in terms of software depending on whether the hotel is a large or small operation.

Larger Hotels. If you are part of a large hotel operation and have your own application, then an ID scanning SDK such as that from IDScan.net would be your best option. The SDK will give you the ability to have the ID scanning component built directly into your own application. This way you can continue to use your application without any additional steps.

Smaller & Mid-size Hotels. If you are a somewhat smaller hotel, then the ID scanning solution-WizzForms Plus M280 would be your best option. WizzForms Plus is an app that is essentially a keystroke emulator. It will populate your PMS according to the profile you create which tells the app where to input what. In addition, it captures images of the ID and credit card so you can link said items to the ID scan and search for them later if necessary. This is great when it comes to fighting chargebacks.

Regardless as to whether you are part of a large chain or a boutique hotel, providing a positive guest experience and operating at your highest level are invaluable assets. To learn more about IDScan.net’s hospitality solutions click here.

5 Things You Must Know to Ensure Nightclub & Bar Safety

Keeping Your Club Safe:

Running a bar takes more than having good selection of liquor, as the owner you have a responsibility to keep patrons safe. Nobody wants to frequent an establishment where fights break out often. Such behavior puts both guests and employees at risk. Robert Smith, CEO of Nightclub Security Consultants and former police officer, hosted a seminar, Keeping Your Club Safe during a nightclub convention in New Orleans this past August. The contents of Robert’s presentation are extremely valuable and a must know for all of those working in the nightclub and bar industry.

What You Need to Know:

  1. Statistics: According to the Bureau of Labor & Statistics, gun violence has increased 23% over the last 4 years. Once a shooter is challenged, they will typically stop shooting. According to the FBI, 50% of shooters are stopped by an unarmed citizen. Knowing these statistics is crucial in order for nightclub operators to make these numbers go down.
  2. Why has there been an increase in violence? There is a large, young demographic that frequents nightclubs and bars. This demographic is different from its preceding generations as they are desensitized to violence. One of the reasons for this desensitization is due to video games, where shooting a gun is normal. Another reason is due to their lack of interpersonal skills because of the increase in using text and online messaging. Their skills in communicating and dealing with conflict are lacking compared to older generations.
  3.  Stopping a Bar Fight Before it Starts: Shooters can be categorized into 4 groups. There is the angry patron inside of the club, the angry patron that staff ejected from the club, patrons tied into domestic violence and the planned shooter. Planned shooters are what the public and nightclub owners tend to worry about the most. However, the majority of violence in clubs is a result from the angry customer inside the club and the ejected one.
  4. People Oriented Solution: Robert’s motto is Run, Hide, Fight. It is important to keep your patrons and staff safe and avoid violence whenever possible. However, at some point, it may be necessary for a person to stop the shooter from causing more harm by fighting back. The best way to stop the shooter, however, is preventing them from shooting in the first place.  Below are some of Robert’s recommendations:
    • Train staff to be aware of the people and activity in your establishment
    • Re-evaluate your security procedures
    • Change your mindset-think in terms of the aggressor and what they might do
    • Kick someone out for an argument, don’t let them back in. Have the cops escort them off of the premises
    • Befriend law enforcement prior to ever needing them
    • Have staff wear day glow vests when clearing out a club so potential aggressors will think they are law enforcement
    • Use improvised weapons when necessary
  5. ID Scanning Solution: ID scanning plays an important role when it comes to increasing nightclub and bar safety. ID scanning goes beyond age verification. In less than 1 second, the patron’s information, including name and address is collected, and a time stamp is created. With a solution like VeriScan or VeriScan Online, an additional layer of validation is provided. It is also possible to tie the ID into government databases for nightclub industry operators that want a higher level of identity vetting. ID scanning solutions also give staff the ability to group patrons. If a patron is banned, the next time their ID is scanned, it will pop up on the scanning screen, that they are “banned.” Existing banned lists can be imported and shared among clubs. ID scanning also allows nightclub and bar staff to easily search and export visitor logs to aid in law enforcement investigations.

IDScan.net can help minimize violence in your establishment and help you comply with law enforcement when necessary. Learn more about IDScan.net’s nightclub and bar solutions, here or call one of our specialists, at 888-430-8936!

4 Reasons a Strong Visitor Management System is Critical for Correctional Facilities

Progressive prisons across the globe are using ID scanning to streamline their visitor management. In the United States, there are over 2,220,300 incarcerated adults, so having the ability to easily track who is coming in and out of the facility to visit these prisoners is absolutely essential to securing the grounds, reducing risks and increasing operational efficiencies.

Here are four reasons a robust visitor management system centered on quality ID scanning is critical for prisons:

  1. For many prisons, the visit process occurs before the visitor even sets foot on prison grounds. With ID scanning applications like VeriScan Online, facility personnel can create and send a visit request to the security director with an electronic request form. This form includes such information as the start of the visit, host’s name, visitor’s name and other pertinent informaiton. Once the request is submitted, the security director will ultimately decide whether or not that individual is approved for the visitor queue. The scheduled visits can then be viewed by the appropriate security personnel. On the day of the visit, prison security personnel scan the visitor’s ID. In less than 1 second, the necessary information is collected and a visitor badge highlighting the person’s name and picture, alongside how long the visitor is allowed on the premises can be produced.
  2. Some facilities use biometrics as part of their visitor management processes. Once a person scans their ID and gives their fingerprint, the next time their fingerprint is scanned, their ID data and other relevant information, such as their image will pop up on the screen. This is a great feature for prisons that are trying to ensure a high level of security as well as expedite the check-in process even further.
  3. A higher level of identity validation can be necessary. If an andividual or their ID were to seem suspicious or security personnel wanted to gain more information on the visitor, they could run background checks on the individual by scanning their ID for further background information. The results from these checks appear in a matter of a few seconds. In addition, some facilities have existing lists of “banned” visitors. These lists can be imported into certain ID scanning software (such as IDScan.net’s VeriScan Online) so if their ID is scanned, it will pop up that they are banned. This added layer of security helps keeps prison staff and prisoners safe.
  4. Visitor management systems offer benefits beyond security. Many prison facilities like to have first-time visitors sign an electronic waiver or an agreement to adhere to the facility’s rules. Once the waiver is signed, it will automatically be saved, stored and linked to that individuals ID scan. If a visitor was to break prison rules or claimed that they were unaware of said rules, IDScan.net’s software allows prison personnel to easily access visitor records. In this case, it would show a signed copy of the rules that the visitor signed. This waiver component will help visitors comply with prison regulations.

IDScan.net can help you reduce prison visitor’s wait time and optimize the check-in process. Learn more about IDScan.net’s visitor management solutions, here or call our VeriScan Online account specialist, Alycia at 888-430-8936 x 103!

Mississippi Updates IDs

Mississippi Updates IDs & Enhances Issuing Process.

The Mississippi Department of Public Safety announced that it is now issuing newly designed driver’s licenses and state ID cards.  This is the largest change in the department’s history. The transition started 5 years ago and is supposed to come to full completion at the end of this year.

The Mississippi DPS decided to do this as a security measure.  Like many other states that have recently implemented this sort of change, the goal is to protect its citizens against identity theft and prevent counterfeiting.

Alaska Real ID Extension

In case you missed our previous blog posts, the Real ID Act was created in 2005 as a response to 9/11. The idea was to tighten up security on state ID cards in an effort to prevent terrorists from obtaining them. One of the requirements is that a person show proof of citizenship or residency in order to obtain a license.
