How to Stay Compliant as a North Carolina Bar/Private Club Owner

We are pleased to announce that our VeriScan Online Enterprise solution has been authorized by the North Carolina ABC!

North Carolina ABC

Automating ALE Requirements:

IDScan.net’s VeriScan Online Enterprise Subscription automates ABC’s requirements so when the ALE comes for an inspection, you can easily access and provide them with the records they request. VeriScan Online will ensure the following:

  • Automate new member registration
  • Alphebatized membership roster
  • Alphebatized visitor log
  • Hobby automation
  • Ensure compliance and prevent fines
  • Provide efficient operations and positive staff and patron experience
  • Group members such as VIP and Banned
  • Share alert lists between clubs and other VeriScan Online Enterprise users to receive an alert such as entry of a Banned patron, arrival of VIP, etc.

Next Steps:

If you would like to learn more about VeriScan Online, you can sign up for a free 30 day trial here or call 888-430-8936 for a free consultation or demo.

ALE:

The Alcohol Law Enforcement (ALE) is responsible for the enforcement of ABC Laws. They are a division of the Department of Public Safety.

As a bar owner in North Carolina, you know the importance of complying with  ALE and its unique requirements. Many of you have establishments which the ABC considers to be a private club. The North Carolina ABC rules can make ensuring compliance a time consuming and laborious process.

Some of ABC’s Requirements for North Carolina:

  • Membership Roster with all Members Names & Addresses in Alphabetical Order
  • Signed Membership Agreement in Alphabetical Order
  • Alphebatized Visitor Log
  • Member Hobbies

Bar Owners’ Challenges:

You are in a challenging position. You have to ensure that you meet the above requirements while also still focusing on training employees, ensuring your customers receive a positive and timely experience and ensuring that your staff can focus on their actual responsibilities rather than tedious labor.

Currently, many bar owners are keeping paper logs and having employees file them manually and in alphabetical order at least once a week to prepare for a possible ALE visit.  While this meets compliance, it is not efficient for operations and wastes precious time that you could dedicate toward enhanced service, marketing efforts, etc.
In an Ideal World, a North Carolina Bar Owner Would Like to be Able to:

  1. Automatically collect & store patron info and classify them as a member or guest

  2. Receive notification of when membership fees are due

  3. Have patron electronically sign membership agreement and store alphabetically for your records

  4. Print out a membership card after automatically collecting patron information

  5. Have an easily accessible and alphebatizable visitor log

IDScan.net Integrates Payment Processing into ID Scanning Apps

IDScan.net has announced that payment processing is now fully integrated into their cloud based ID scanning applications, VeriScan Online and VS Max.

IDScan.net has announced that payment processing is now fully integrated into their cloud based ID scanning applications.

The move, according to Denis Petrov, CEO of IDScan.net, allows businesses to process a credit card payment and automatically capture and link it to the data stored on the purchaser’s ID. It allows two separate actions to be processed as one entry.

“This capability is great news for our customers who can now easily collect payments on the spot while ensuring that they have the valuable customer data that they need,” Petrov said.

“The new payment processing feature will allow all types of organizations to increase their number of transactions as well as revenue.” -Denis Petrov, CEO IDScan.net

Easily collect payment regardless of location.

This full scope solution benefits any markets that need to take payments and quickly collect customer data through mobile or desktop solutions. This could be for any type of event entry, donation request, marketing purposes for sales trials, etc. The solution is also essential to fighting chargebacks.

With VeriScan Online, it takes less than 1 second to collect the ID information; this automation provides greater efficiency and accuracy for businesses. The applications not only capture ID and payment information, they also capture signature, provide geo coordinates as well as a receipt. The information collected allows organizations and businesses to better understand their donors or customers. With the applications, businesses can generate reports to identify gender, age, and zip code through an online web portal.

The payment processing is now integrated into all versions of the VeriScan Online application. This also includes the newly released VS Max, a cloud based ID scanning app which has similar functionality to VeriScan Online but gives users further customization options which include customizable fields, whether it is for a questionnaire or to more quickly process visitors.

IDScan.net CTO, Andrey Stanovnov, states “The VS Max application has the additional feature of being completely customizable. The added advantage is it allows customers to tailor exactly what information they would like to capture and keep track of said data in a very streamlined way.

“Both the payment processing integration and the release of the VS Max application are exciting initiatives for IDScan.net. The integrated systems are fast and efficient, and they provide a new and improved experience for both businesses and customers,” Stanovnov said.

LA Governor John Bel Edwards Prepares for Real ID Bill

On Monday, May 30th the Louisiana Senate voted to pass a bill that allows residents to decide whether they want a driver’s license or other state ID card that is compliant with the Real ID Act.

The bill was proposed by Louisiana State Senator Yvonne Dorsey-Colomb (pictured below) and passed with a 28-9 vote. Governor John Bel Edwards plans to sign the bill into law.

Proponents of the bill believe that Louisiana residents should have this option in order to protect their privacy.

As discussed in our last blog post, opponents of the Real ID Act feel that it violates privacy and makes it easier for hackers to obtain personal information due to the fact that the information will go into a database that is shared between states.

Illinois Transitions to Real ID Compliance

Illinois will change the way they issue IDs as part of its efforts to become compliant with the Real ID Act.

According to the Department of Homeland Security, Illinois, along with Minnesota, Missouri, and Washington are not compliant with the Real ID Act.

Illinois will begin the process to become compliant this summer. Tuesday, May 24th, Jesse White, Illinois Secretary of State, announced the steps Illinois will take to achieve compliance. Beginning in July, new licenses and other state ID cards will be mailed to the applicant after they pass a number of fraud checks. In the meantime, the applicant will receive a temporary paper to serve as their identification.

DHS has created the following deadlines:

  • All U.S. Residents flying domestically will be able to use a driver’s license orother form of identification accepted by TSA until January 2018.
  • Beginning January 22nd, 2018, residents must present an alternative form ofidentification unless they are a resident of one of the states which has been granted an extension.
  • Beginning October 1st, 2020, all U.S. residents are required to have a Real IDcompliant license or another form of TSA-approved identification for domestic airtravel.

Jim Harper quote

We have discussed the Real ID Act in previous blog posts, but we have not covered the reasoning for states such as Illinois’ hesitance in becoming compliant. According to the Examiner, several states have not wanted to transition to Real ID compliance because they feel it minimizes states’ rights as well as individual privacy.

Federal funding for Real ID compliance is only issued to states that agree to link their databases to other states so information between DMVs can be shared.

As discussed in Cynthia Hodges’ article on the Examiner, Jim Harper, Director of Information Policy Studies at the Free-Market CATO Insitute and a member of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Data Privacy and Data Committee, states, “The Real ID Act represents a transfer of power from individuals to institutions, and that transfer threatens liberty, enables identity fraud, and subjects people to unwanted surveillance.”

While there is controversy surrounding the act, the majority of states are compliant or are in the process of becoming so. We will continue to keep readers updated on the act.

Maryland to Issue New Driver’s License and ID Cards

The Motor Vehicle Association (MVA) in Maryland has announced that it will issue a new driver’s license and state ID cards. The new cards will be available June 20th of this year and will begin to be issued after July 11th.

Maryland has not updated their IDs since 2003. The MVA decided to do this as a security measure; goal is to protect its citizens against identity theft and prevent counterfeiting. The new security features on the ID will make it very difficult for the IDs to be replicated. The IDs are also compliant with the Real ID Act. An extra security precaution includes mailing the new IDs from a secure MVA facility, so counterfeiters will have a reduced chance to access the equipment that produces the IDs as well as personal information.

Some of the new features include:

  • Three images of the cardholder, two on the front and one on the back
  • Laser engraving
  • Inventory control number
  • Raised print

Per the Baltimore Sun’s article, “This card is the most secure driver’s license in the United States today,” state Transportation Secretary Pete K. Rahn said. “It has numerous layered security features that are going to make the Maryland driver’s license, learner’s permit and ID the most difficult to tamper with, and in fact, I would predict, not for many years are we going to see anyone with the ability to falsify a Maryland driver’s license.”

Counteirfeiters seem to be able to hack or duplicate almost anything these days but Maryland has made great efforts to prevent this.

Please note that this ID update will be available to all of IDScan.net’s software users before the IDs are released and will be avaialble for download here.

“Virginia Task Force 1 requires fast, precise and efficient ID scanning and data collection capabilities because they are in the business of saving lives. Collision Conference

This past week two of our team members (myself included) had the pleasure of attending Collision. For those of you who may not be familiar with Collision, it is a US tech conference where startups and industry leaders gather to learn and network.

My primary purpose for being there was to soak up as much knowledge as I could in the one day I was able to attend. There were hundreds of lecturers at different stages who spoke in 15 minute increments. There were several stages set up which categorized the different types of lectures; I spent most of my time at the Marketing Stage however made a point to venture out to learn about other topics such as sustainable growth.

Almost every speaker I saw reignited my desire to improve and ramp up marketing efforts and gain more knowledge about the tech industry in general. There were some major industry players there such as Neil Vogel of About.com, Phil Gilbert of IBMDesign and Julia Hartz of Eventbrite. I enjoyed the 15 minute lectures because the short time frame  encouraged speakers to hit the most important points of their experiences and encouraged attendees to soak up as much information as they could.

Here are the topics which were covered by the aforementioned people:

  • Reinventing your brand and beating the competion (Neil Vogel)
  • Sustainable business: is growth the right metric? (Julia Hartz)
  • Using the creative mind to problem-solve (Phil Gilbert)

Collision

I was blown away by how candid Neil Vogel was. He spoke about the struggles About.com has had, and how they had not kept up with their competion in terms of branding and strategizing their content. He also discussed their plan for their new health website, verywell.com which was launched that day, pretty genius if you ask me.

Julia Hartz had a conversation with Tina Sharkey of Sherpa Foundry about sustainable growth, how do you truly measure it, and how do you achieve it in different markets? Hearing the history of EventBrite was very motivating and made me start thinking as to how this might be applied to my own job.

Phil Gilbert, stood at a high table while sipping on Abita Amber chatting with Harry West of frog and Chris Dannen of Fast Company. They discussed the importance of communication within a company and how before you can truly be valuable to a customer, you have to make sure your own team is on the same page. This really hit home in terms of the importance of communication within an organization, be it a tiny one or a large one.

Below are some of the major takeaways from each lecture:

1.  Companies that are not customer centric, fail.

2. It is important to take a step back from your company and examine

everything from an outside perspective.

3. You must have empathy within your own company, a sort of humble confidence.

All in all, Collision was a great experience. There were many incredible speakers which were not all covered in this post, but we wanted to share with our readers some of the valuable highlights. We plan to attend next year and fingers crossed it will be in our awesome hometown of New Orleans!

Entrata

Entrata Partners with IDScan.net

Entrata partners with IDScan.net to add ID scanning capabilities to its mobile leasing solution, SiteTablet.

NEW ORLEANS, LA (PRWEB) MARCH 31, 2016

Entrata, the multi-family industry’s fastest growing technology provider, has partnered with IDScan.net to bring new and innovative ID scanning capabilities to its SiteTablet mobile leasing solution.

IDScan.net’s ID parsing software development kit enables companies like Entrata to incorporate driver’s license reading and parsing capabilities into its own applications. The state of the art technology does not require Internet connectivity to scan ID’s and it parses the data locally on each device, resulting in much faster processing speeds.

Both companies joined forces in October last year, with positive results coming in this quarter from existing clients.

“The new ID scanning feature is receiving excellent feedback from clients in the multi-family industry,” said Joshua Renberg, product manager, Entrata.

Since releasing the new ID scanning feature, Entrata has seen usage and adoption rates more than double for one of the multi-family’s largest companies using SiteTablet.

The SiteTablet app was originally developed by Entrata to provide a connected mobile solution to the antiquated leasing process of the multi-family industry. In the past, leasing agents relied heavily on paper brochures, printed availability and pricing sheets and paper leases. SiteTablet allows agents to connect directly to their Property Management Software so they have real-time access to all of the information they need to do their job effectively.

“We chose IDScan.net’s software to quickly scan driver’s licenses in an effort to streamline and efficiently capture prospective residents’ information during the leasing process,” said Renberg.“This change to the process is much more efficient in time and reduces errors in transposing details such as name, address and license number.”

“Our Company is pleased to provide innovative ID scanning capabilities to companies like Entrata who are looking for a fast, accurate and efficient method of collecting ID information. We are excited to welcome Entrata as a customer and look forward to a long and mutually beneficial relationship with their team,” said IDScan.net’s CEO Denis Petrov. “We’ve been providing the most up to date and cost-effective ID reading technology to the commercial market for over 13 years, and it’s great to see the enhancement it has brought to Entrata’s SiteTablet.”
